First

Well, that isn't where I think he should be slotted....but I feel like he could be a little higher on this list. He will get to the top ten this season, almost for certain.

What a fun player to watch.

I look at the guys ahead of him and its hard to see him higher... that being said I see him moving up as he matures further in the league and the lineup around him improves. Amazing what confidence can do to your performance... Not bad for a 4th round, 104th overall pick! Anyone on that list get drafted lower?

As much as I hate to say this but I'd put Sid and Ovi ahead of Kane at #1...

I think the list has him about where he should be. I love watching him play - he's one of those players who looks like he's really having fun out there.

You could probably put up a good argument he's better then Bergeron or McDavid right now... But the list seems pretty fair.

We will probably see Gaudreau-Monahan-Brouwer on top line, at least to start the year.

The 2nd line with Bennett is anyones guess. My thinking is it's going to be Shinkaruk-Bennett & Ferland to start, but that depends on how Shink & Ferly do in camp. We do expect Tkachuk to get 9 games on this line but probably sent back to Jr.

3rd line I see Bouma-Backlund-Frolik

4th line is going to vary with Bollig/Stajan/Chiasson & possibly another rookie impressing out of camp.

Really the only line probably set is the top line & 3rd line.

I think this will be Ferland's last chance to show he can play the type of game he had in the playoffs against the Canucks. After his concussion he stopped playing that hard game... He's not going to score 30 so he needs to show that form or I see him being trade bait pretty quickly...

-A look at Bennett's scoring trends over the season/a closer look at how many goals Bennett was robbed of last season

-A look at the Stockton heat in the final chapter of last season (they gave opportunities to younger players and they produced)

-A closer look at Johnny's scoring trends in relation to playing teams that are known for slashing

-Top 5 fights of the year for the Flames/did said fights impact the game positively?

-Top 10 hits of the year for the Flames

-How will losing Colborne affect our overall place in the standings (shootout points lol)

-A statistical analysis of Wideman's play pre/post incident

-Can a successful trap goalie find success in a system with less emphasis on the trap?

Any of these would be good ideas for a blog. Just throwing ideas out there.

Thanks Fry...

No one mentions Vey in any line combo but Chiasson is. Thoughts? Plus who's competing for a spot in the system?

Oh and wth is a trap goalie?

Agree Ferland needs to have a big year & it's a contract year for him anyway. I don't consider Vey, I think they will give other guys a shot like Hathaway before Vey. I see Vey on a 2 way deal to start in Stockton & depending on play may be a call up during the injury dog days of the schedule.

Chiasson is an unknown & could flop around the 2nd & 4 th lines. If Bouma gets injured like usual, he may fit good with Backlund & Frolik.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see where Vey ends up after camp. We definitely have a tendency of neglecting Centers.. Maybe this is the year Stajan transitions into the 13th forward.

By "trap goalie" I mean a goalie that has found significant success within a system that heavily uses the trap. I.E. Mike Smith within the Tippett system, early career Loungo within the Jaques Martin system, Elliott within the most effective trap system in the modern era (in my opinion).

Some people might not think it makes a difference, but effective trap teams win by keeping shots to the outside and limiting offensive rushes to a low percentage shot from the blue line. Obviously that will make your save percentage/GAA look better than it normally would.

The dude had a roller coaster of a season production-wise. Massive streaks of both excellent and poor production. A deeper analysis of his turning points during the season would be a great read.

Stats over 82 games don't tell much of the story in Bennett's case.

Nice, where did you pull that? Would love to get the individual dates that the massive declines start and take a look at who we played around then.

Chances are we played the Ducks or the Hawks in a couple of those instances. Until the Coyle incident, the Hawks and Ducks fowards slashed wrists with almost no repercussions.

The game before the Coyle incident, Keith broke Hathaway's wrist and cracked Johnny good in the ribs; both slashes, both uncalled. The Hawks finished the year with only 14 slashing minors. Hath's season was ended that game and it's almost entirely forgotten.

I think Edmonton finishes ahead of Calgary this year. If their D can avoid injury they will make strides. The downward spiral can only continue for so long and I believe that this year they turn back into an NHL hockey team.

Calgary just has too many anchor contracts to be competitive. The 2nd scoring line is Bennet and ??? and ???

I agree that the 1st and 3rd lines are pretty much set. But Brouwer is not a first line RW on a a contender.

This will be the last year Calgary is in the bottom 3rd of the league. Once Stajan, Bouma, Bollig, Smid and Wideman are gone (collective 15,325,000) that money can be put into actual productive players. The Flames will be in a much different looking team. Also, Flames will have Tkachuck and most probably one of Anderson or Kylington plugging some of those gapping holes.
